LONGMONT, Colo. (CBS4) – Part of Highway 287 in Longmont was closed on Tuesday afternoon due to a fatal crash near CO 66. A 34-year-old person from Berthoud died.

Police said a Cadillac sedan was traveling south on Highway 287 when the driver lost control and turned sideways into traffic heading north.

The sedan was hit on the driver’s side of the vehicle by a Honda pilot heading north.

Five people were in the SUV and were rushed to hospital with various injuries. Police say these victims are all from Fort Collins and are likely to be fine.

The driver of the Cadillac died.

Investigators say speed and icy road conditions are possible factors, but not drugs or alcohol.

The Boulder County coroner office did not identify the driver of the Cadillac. The intersection is expected to be closed until 10 p.m.
