PLATE COUNTY, Colorado (CBS4) – Krystal Kenney is on parole after being convicted Tuesday. Kenney is the ex-girlfriend of Patrick Frazee, who was convicted of the murder of Kelsey Berreth on Thanksgiving 2018.
Kenney was sentenced Tuesday to 18 months in prison, the maximum prison term of the charges she was convicted of. She admitted that Patrick Frazee was planning to kill Berreth and helped Frazee clean up the crime scene. The Colorado Court of Appeals dismissed Kenney’s case on re-conviction, saying the Teller County District Court “falsely convicted Kenney outside of the maximum possible sentence.” They decided that aggravating circumstances could not be applied. Her original sentence was three years under the State Department of Corrections system.

The original verdict was part of a deal without which she could have spent more than a century in jail.

Kenney was Frazee’s uninterrupted friend and a key witness in his trial. She claimed Frazee tried three times to get her to murder Berreth and eventually admitted to killing her herself.
In letters sent to CBS4’s Rick Sallinger after the trial, Frazee stated that he did not kill Berreth and that “Dan May (the prosecutor) and the media picked up and endorsed this story.”

Prosecutors say Kenney helped them solve the case. Among other things, she showed them places in Berreth’s apartment where she cleaned blood from the scene. She also showed them where she said Frazee burned Berreth’s body outside his Florissant home.
