JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colorado (CBS4) – A small plane crashed in a rough area northwest of Deckers on Saturday, and members of a rescue operation that reached the crash site on Sunday discovered the pilot had died. The plane was reported missing for the first time on Saturday. Eventually, the location of the crashed plane was discovered from the plane overhead on Sunday.

A group of search and rescue workers came to the construction site and found the individual occupants of the plane dead.

“It is with a heavy heart that we announce that the individual occupant, a grown man, of the crashed plane was found dead on site. Our thoughts and prayers to his family and friends, ”the Jefferson County Sheriff’s office wrote in a tweet.

An investigation into the crash is being conducted by the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board
