Brooks Carter scored a triple triple and Coal Kerin had two runscoring singles when Shallowater beat Christian High 6-8 in Denver City on Friday in Lubbock and won an I-3A region baseball quarterfinal series in two games.
Shallowater (31-5) plays against Tuscola Jim Ned (29-0-1) No. 2 in the regional semifinals.
Denver City, beating Presidio and Bushland in the two District and Area Rounds, finished the race 24-9-1. David Escobar drove two runs for Denver City with a single fly and a sacrificial fly.
Shallowater ended a 1-0 deficit with a second inning in six runs. The first runs were scored by RBI singles from Huston Briseno and Bax Townsend. Carter’s triple increased the lead to 5-1 and he scored on Kerin’s infield hit.
Denver City cut it to 6-3 in the third, but Shallowater countered with two in the fifth on base hits from Breken Ramos and Kerin.
Carter, Gannon Moore, and Briseno finished Shallowater with three hits apiece.
Shallowater won the opener 8-6 on Friday and recovered from a 5-4 deficit with a sixth run in four runs. Briseno ended up with braces in two runs and Carter with a homer in two runs.
Shallowater took a 4-2 lead with a fourth run in three runs, crowned by Raleigh Pinkerton’s single with two runs. Denver City responded with a two-part single from Escobar in the fifth and an RBI double from Uriel Rodriguez in the sixth.
