DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colorado (CBS4) – Douglas County Sheriff’s Office says a man was dead after a shooting Saturday night. MPs responded on Interstate 25 on Happy Canyon Road shortly after 6:00 p.m. about a man with a gun.

Sheriff’s officials said the suspect died on the scene.

No MPs were injured and the authorities said there was no danger to the community.

The Critical Incident Response Team was on site at 7:30 p.m. and an investigation has not yet been completed. The Douglas County Coroner will work to uniquely identify the suspect.

In a tweet, the Douglas County Sheriff’s office announced that the MPs involved will be placed on administrative leave in accordance with the office’s guidelines.

The I-25 ramp on Happy Canyon Road has been closed in both directions. There was no estimated time for the reopening.

The sheriff’s office said the main entrance to the Happy Canyon neighborhood was closed due to the gun investigation and residents would have to use the emergency exit south of the subdivision. You were notified of this by a code red alert.

The closure should last several hours into the night.
