When the well-known Denver businessman Chester Morey built a mansion on Capitol Hill as a wedding present for his daughter Mary in 1904, there was no separate nine-seat cinema.

There were also no other amenities like an endless indoor pool, private gym and steam shower.

But today, the renovated home at 1130 E. 7th Ave. in Denver this modern comfort with the original charm of the house from the early 1900s.

“They kept the old world torch,” said David Bell, the property’s listing agent, of the current seller. “You did an amazing job with it.”

An elevator – formerly the servant’s staircase – was added in 2008 and serves all four floors.

The formal living room of the house features the original fireplace and fireplace accented by mahogany paneling and a Schonbeck crystal chandelier above the head.

“The house has been so carefully renovated and restored,” said Bell.

The master bedroom on the second floor has its own wet bar, sundeck, and en-suite bathroom with a three head steam shower.

A sprawling kitchen has an eight cooker stove, three sinks, and a separate full size freezer and refrigerator – a fitting touch to a home originally built by the Morey family who owned one of Colorado’s largest grocery wholesalers. There is also a smaller kitchen on the top floor.

The basement houses a large billiards room and wet bar, as well as a built-in pool, spa, wine cellar, and fitness room. High ceilings and lots of light give the basement a warm, usable feel, Bell said.

EXTERIOR: The property is in just over a third of an acre with an oversized three car garage and 920 square foot two story carriage house with a full kitchen and bathroom.

The house has been on the market since May 21, 2015.
