The fifth seeded Denver Pioneers hockey team lost in the semi-finals of the NCHC Frozen Faceoff tournament on Monday and fell 2-1 in extra time against North Dakota 2-1 at the Ralph Engelstad Arena in Grand Forks, ND

Young striker Gavin Hain scored 11:23 in extra time when the Fighting Hawks’ power play ended to secure victory.

DU (10-13-1) scored first when newcomer Carter Savoie scored a power play goal with 14:08 in the second half.

Denver held the lead late into the third period. With 2:19 remaining, North Dakota (20-5-1) pulled their goalkeeper. With the man advantage, the Fighting Hawks connected the goal of junior striker Jasper Weatherby with 1:25 after 1: 1.
