Two men shot dead on South Federal Boulevard in Denver on Thursday afternoon have been identified and two suspects have been arrested.

DeAngelo Tafoya, 22, and David Lara, 59) were taken by ambulance from the 300 block on South Federal Boulevard to Denver Health, where they were pronounced dead, according to the doctor’s office. They died from gunshot wounds.

Two suspects arrested in the case are identified as Elias Chavez and Tlaloc Chavez, both 22 years old, according to police. You are being held for investigation into first degree murder.

The couple were arrested near the intersection of West Seventh Avenue and Alcott Street shortly after the shootings, according to an affidavit.

Witnesses told police that shots were fired from a gold or brown SUV. About five minutes after the shooting, officers stopped the suspects in a Honda CRV that matched the description of the suspect vehicle, the affidavit said.

A cartridge case was found on the driver’s seat of the vehicle and another shell was found on the floor in front of the driver’s door, the affidavit said. Elias Chavez drove the Honda and Tlaloc Chavez sat in the back seat. A toddler was sitting in a car seat in the center of the rear passenger seat of the SUV. A third person, an unidentified 19-year-old woman, was in the passenger seat.

A witness at a Federal bus stop identified the two suspects after the shooting, the affidavit said. The witness told police that the driver was wearing glasses and fired shots. One person in the back seat was wearing a “Champion” shirt. The witness also described a woman as said in the passenger seat.

In the affidavit, Elias Chavez was described as wearing glasses and driving. Tlaloc Chavez was in the back seat, wearing a Champion branded shirt, according to the affidavit.

The surveillance video of an RTD bus recorded the recordings according to the affidavit. The footage shows gunshots being fired by the Honda from the driver’s window and back seat at victims as they approached the Honda, which had just driven off an alley into Federal.
