Rev. Rodney G. Perry, formerly Pine Bluff, has been named pastor of Central Baptist Church in Denver, Colorado. Perry was named a 1987 graduate of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff and was appointed on December 1.

The pastor will be officially installed on February 21. Visiting ministers include Rev. Charles E. Thomas, pastor of New Life Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama, speaking at 10:45 am and Rev. Marvin E. Wiley, pastor of Rock of Ages Baptist Church in Maywood, Illinois, speaking at 4:30 p.m.

Perry is accepted into his service by his 27-year-old wife, Sheila D. Perry. They are the parents of a son, Rodney Perry Jr., a junior at the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Perry was ordained a priest in November 1989 by the Western States Baptist Convention, an aid program of National Baptist Convention USA Inc. From October 1993 to March 2012 he was pastor of the Greater St. John Baptist Church. After serving as a supply pastor at Macedonia Baptist Church, Perry was an intern with the American Baptist Churches in the Rocky Mountains.

As he begins his new role at Central Baptist Church, Perry looks forward to growing the congregation, a press release said.

“I want to build on history that has already been established and be able to advance the culture of the church to have a greater presence in the ward,” Perry said in the press release. “And above all to have Christ represented in the immediate community.”

“The Central Baptist Church is central to the city, downtown Denver and Five Points,” he said.
