The Denver Architecture Foundation (DAF) and the Colorado Photographic Arts Center (CPAC) have announced the winners of the 3rd Annual Doors Open Denver Photo Contest “Y / OUR Denver”.
The competition challenged photographers of all skill levels to find and photograph their favorite areas of Denver, with an emphasis on Denver’s vast and unique architecture. The call allowed all forms of architectural images – black and white, color, exterior, interior and detail images. The competition started on September 25th and ended on October 29th.
Samantha Johnston, director and curator of CPAC and judge of the competition, named the following photographers “Y / OUR Denver” winners.
Best in Show: “CROSSED PATHS” by Scott Wilson
Best exterior: “Reconstruction of the Denver Art Museum” by Faina Gurevich
Best interior: “Belly of the Cathedral” by Edward Huang
Best detail: “Denver Series # 72” by Rodney Gene Mahaffey
From 225 entries, Johnston selected 30 finalist images (including the four winners above) as part of the online exhibition, which will be available on the DAF website and CPAC website until March 1st.
“While this was a different year for Doors Open Denver, and the event took three weeks of virtual insider tours, the ‘Y / OUR Denver’ photography competition provided the public with an opportunity to safely explore Denver’s architecture through photography,” Pauline said Herrera, executive director of the Denver Architecture Foundation. “In an era when we practice safe social distancing and are more at home than usual, our community can enjoy the beauty of Denver remotely through the Y / OUR Denver digital exhibit. “
